The Maxwell Street Foundation is a non-profit focused on preserving the history of Chicago’s Maxwell Street, a dynamic neighborhood first home to diverse communities of immigrants and throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, along with African Americans from the Great Migration. Through its vibrant outdoor markets, Maxwell Street became a hub of music and culture, launching the careers of several prominent jazz and blues musicians.
The passionate people at the foundation wanted to expand their reach and educate the public about the little-known Maxwell Street. With this goal in mind, I created a modern logo and brand identity inspired by the vibrant signage of the original market. I also helped design a website where members could compile upcoming events, historical information, and personal stories of the folks who experienced the neighborhood firsthand
